What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
In RPG campaigns it is not uncommon for the name of a person, place, location, or object to either change or to be revealed as having been something else all along. I want to be able to link to the P/P/L/O using the appropriate name; however, I don't always want to simply change the article title, either because it would be a spoiler (as in the case of using the same article across multiple campaigns, or when one character learns something but not others) or because it disrupts veracity and causes confusion (especially in session reports from before the change/reveal).
How does this feature request address the current situation?
This feature was requested in 2022 by user jterlecki, but was declined because "WorldAnvil already allows to redirect a Category to an Article." The issue is that it's not a category I want to redirect, it's one (essentially non-existent) article to another, allowing me to have multiple links end up directing to the same article.
What are other uses for this feature request?
As jterlecki mentioned in the original request, it's also sometimes the case that something falls under two separate categories and should be listed under both, but writing and having two separate articles is unnecessary or confusing, such as Country X (location, under World Atlas) and Country X (organization, under World Encyclopedia), or Event Y (article, under World Encyclopedia) and Event Y (event, under Timelines).
The Team's Response
Thanks for the suggestion! While we can see how this could be useful and are not against it, this would be a significant change so we'd need to see more support from the commuinty before designing and creating the feature.
