Article Custom Section

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

When writing in information for the articles, I have discovered that not every section I am looking for is available. A good example is, when writing about a settlement location, I want to write about traditions and cultures, but these sections are not available.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Being able to create Custom sections, that we can name ourselves, would enable us to include any relevant information we have, whereas at the moment we have to fit it into the pre-existing sections that are available. These would probably sit at the bottom of the page, below the pre-existing sections.

What are other uses for this feature request?

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! If you're missing a text field, you can simply create your own headers. When viewing an article, a header you've created yourself and a default field header look exactly the same. If you expect many articles to have the same custom sections, you could use custom templates: https://www.worldanvil.com/learn/article-guides/custom-templates

I think this is not really very difficult to manage by simply adding your own headings into body test, footer text or existing template sections as suggested by Those2Nerds. I suspect also that there are probably performance implications to custom sections (my guess is that the number of sections in a template even if unused is probably what slows up the editor on load, although I could be wrong).

You don't have to fit anything into pre-existing sections. You can add your own headings to any content section when the prompts don't have what you need. The vignette/main content section is above the prompts and footer is below them, but you can also add headings inside prompts if you want to insert your own section between them.   At Grandmaster+, you can create Custom Article Templates to have a default set of headings you can easily reuse.   A very similar suggestion to this was opened and closed last September with the same information: https://www.worldanvil.com/community/voting/suggestion/cc67e6dc-1298-4f00-949a-39e406e43723/view

We already have something kind of like this, but it's not very user friendly. A better version could be useful

Isn't this something for the Custom Article Template? I think this already exists there. Also, you can create your own fields/sections by just using header formatting (at the bottom of whichever section you want your new field or section to be in).
