Ability to update feature request comments

User Interface (UI) / User Experience (UX) · Generic · Created by ArcadiusPrime
declined
There is currently no way to edit or take back feature request comments. If you notice a typo or realize you copy-pasted over what you intended to say, there is no way to edit your comment. In a worst case, one might accidentally put in sensitive or inappropriate information that is now publicly visible with no way to undo it outside of contacting support.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! This is more a policy decision than a technical one, and the reasoning is abuse and moderation. We have seen breaches of Etiquette in the comments of these suggestions and we don't want to give people a chance to get away with being hostile towards other users by editing their comment a while later before we've seen it. Editing comments could also create situations in which the original posted of the suggestion addresses them in the Follow-up, which could be awkward at best and cause severe misunderstandings at worst.   If after leaving a comment you feel like you really missed something very crucial to your point, you can let us know in the #development-discussion channel on our Discord server. If you accidentally entered sensitive information that wasn't meant for this field, you can email us at [email protected] or ping/DM the community team on Discord and we'll help.

As to prevent abuse, there should be a specified window you can edit the comment.

I agree with others that editing suggestions could be problematic, but that isn't what OP is asking - being able to edit your voting comments wouldn't neccessarily impact much, so I'm all for it

Many have concerns with abuse of this potential improvement, but it would address a real issue. My suggestion is that edits must be submitted to an admin, who then decides whether to publish them.

Maybe you could edit the suggestion before it gets votes? If people could change anything about their suggestion and completely rewrite the entire thing after people have voted on it, the feature would almost certainly be abused.

At least you should be able so delete it, and voters get their money back. But change a suggestion when it got votes is risky.

I would probably be less anxious about adding comments with my votes if I could fix unintended/unclear wording, grammar errors, and spelling mistakes.

Simple mistakes/omissions or additional thoughts very often occur to me soon after posting a comment, no matter how much care I think I've taken to write it and I suppose sometimes it could be worse than that. Just human nature. I'd also like the ability to edit my comments but I generally think the team is better focusing on core WA functionality ahead of improvements in this feedback system, so it wouldn't be an absolute top priority for me.
