Crop and frame Article thumbnails

We have the option to add a cover photo to each article which is very nice. However, in presentation mode I often find that the tumbnail for my articles are cropped in a way that makes the image awkward, unaesthetic or even unrecognizable.

I think we should add a function in the design section of articles to specifically crop the cover image as it will be seen as the thumb nail. This would be a simple feature that would make all of our articles more pleasing to the eye and therefore more enticing to read.

I second Buzzard's idea - let us add an extra thumbnail image, which we can prepare in whatever software suits us best.

Could also have an option for Global maximum cover height. So then every header has a consistent height without having to externally crop and upload every new image

I think that an easier implementation would be to have an optional thumbnail field that we could simply upload an appropriately sized (or alternate) image to. I see little benefit to adding the complexity of cropping functionality to the article editor when most of us already have tools to do that on our local device.

I added header images to articles in Summer Camp 2022, carefully using the recommended size, and was very disconcerted to see that the thumbnails on my SC page only showed the central half-dozen characters of the article names - and they weren't large or long! Something to fix that would be enormously useful.

A great idea, any feature to make the thumbnails more presentable would be welcome.
