relationship -families -family -parents adopting platonic
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
The relationship manager only allows for 2 biological parents plus 2 more adopted parents. While this is already good, it leaves out the option of way bigger families for example that are in a polyamorous relationship with each other.
The Familial Type only allows for the two broad options of Spousal and Sibling, but nothing of
platonic kind. I would like to see that option there as well.
Using this to also make a family tree of deities that created specieses makes it harder when more than just one deity had a hand in a species.
For example one deity created all species that can fly, then having them as a single "parent" is no issue, but if another deity or more worked on them as well, then they are shown to have a relationship with that other deity that might be totally different from what they have, as this can't distinguish between a relationship of creators and a realtionship of deities to each other.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
Instead of having Parent 1, Parent 2, Adoptive Parent 1 and Adoptive Parent 2, I think a better solution could be an option where you can add any given amount of people and define them as Parents. For some structures it doesn't matter if they are biological or adopted, for other structures they might all be the adoptive parents because the children's biological family is dead and has been adopted.
I suggest the following Familial Types as a main option to be choosen from, together with 2 sub-options, I advise for more here, for a more detailed option:
• Spousal: Spouse, Polygamy, Option to write
• Sibling: Sister, Brother, Option to write
• Platonic: Soulmate, Kinship, Option to write
• Romantic: Monogamic, Option to write
• Work: Inventor, Founder, Creator, Option to write
•
FSK 18 Sexual: One Night Stand, Friends with Benefit, Option to write
I'd suggest a further looking into with the Wikipedia pages on
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpersonal_relationship,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monogamyand more specifically on the right side
Types of Relationships.
The more options we have in this aspect the more details we can give into a relationship. This can also make a complicated relationship of for example, an abusive, codependent relationship more easily to be tracked with different character rather than the simple current options we have.
What are other uses for this feature request?
This could be used for inventions and people that together created something having them as the Inventor/Founder of something when it was more than one person or different groups. Same would go for the creation of species if something invented them, such as how Owlbears in D&D are typically meant to be an experiment from a wizard.
Follow up
As I've seen, also thanks to someone here giving me an actual link, there has been a few more that were proposed in the past.
The team is already aware of this so if you want to keep your coins then please do so for new topics to be proposed.
Also I've noticed that I don't nearly think wide enough to actually search efficiently through this and wanna apologize to the team for this doubling up posting taking time from you should you decide to answer on this.
The Team's Response
Thanks for your suggestion! We totally get that these types of family exist, both in the real world and in your fictional ones, and that our family trees make it difficult to represent them. However, this would add massive complexity to the system that we can't implement.
That said, a future update will implement character relationship webs, which might help with this usecase.
