Make it possible to import pre existing manuscripts into the Manuscript function

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

It is not currently possible to import a pre-existing manuscript from eg Word or Google Docs into Manuscripts. This means I had to go through chapter by chapter copy pasting my manuscript which was find because I had dual monitors but would have been a total pain if I had to do it all on my laptop.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

It... it fixes it?

What are other uses for this feature request?

It would make collaboration with other writers easier if they do not use/cannot afford World Anvil. If importing also maintained formatting, which copy pasting doesnt, it would also make it easier for people, like me, who are savvy with formatting in word but not so much in World Anvil. For example, part of my book is meant to be newspaper articles but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to put columns in World Anvil, whereas its a matter of seconds to set it up in Word.

The Team's Response

The idea sounds great until you ask yourself - import from WHERE and break into parts HOW ?   This has been discussed already in the team but the truth is that the power of manuscripts is the fact that your work is separated and easily manageable; The importing data should be somehow separated which would mean either way going through the manuscript and separating somehow which can be more work than just going through your manuscript and pasting in the work in the right parts.

As someone who's currently in the same boat, I support this idea, as I want to use World Anvil's manuscript feature more but I often find myself fighting it.

I like the idea of this, but I've imported from Word into online editors before and the formatting import is not trivial. Especially since there is a functional difference between Word's sometimes very visual formatting and the semantic markup on online editors. I'm a big fan of semantic markup being more versatile...

This is a fantastic idea and also makes World Anvil a more accessible option for people just finding it after already writing a large portion of their material.
