Dependency for Holidays Based on Celestial Events/Calendar Dates (Computus)

holiday festival computus

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

“Computus” or dependency is missing from the holiday feature entirely. Users should be able to have a holiday fall on a certain weekday preceeding/following a celestial event or calendar date. Easter, for example, falls on the first Sunday after the full moon following March 21st (Spring Equinox).   Holidays are limited to occurring annually or monthly on the same date. Even though new features are on their way, these still don't to allow computus/dependency.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Allowing "computus" of holidays would allow much greater flexibility for calendaring holidays and would allow users to create more dynamic holidays without fixing their calendars to a hard lunar month system, which still won't account for other celestial phases or alignments.

What are other uses for this feature request?

  None that come to mind.

Failed to mark this as a calendar feature when I accidentally refreshed the page. Ahhhhh! (Not even a tag) *facepalms*

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! The feature sounds really cool, but it's also a very complicated one to design and implement, so we would need to see more interest from the community before considering it.
