[New UI] Stop autosaving onkeydown

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

There is a lot of debate about the new UI. It feels cluncky, slow and laggy. World anvil being a tool for worldbuilding and writing should not feel slow and especially not laggy. If a key is pressed the character should apear on screen immediatly. The new UI doesn't do this. It is slow and laggy. The biggest contributor to that is the fact that the editor saves on EVERY SINGLE keypress. The average person has a typing speed of ~40 words per minute (200 key presses per minute). A autosave (taken at random, not average) takes 320 ms to complete. 200 presses * 320 ms is 64000ms per minute. Since there are only 60000ms in each minute, the editor takes longer to autosave than there actually is time in a minute. So after a minute the editor is 12 keypresses behind.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Instead of autosaving EVERY SINGLE DAMN KEYPRESS, why not autosave every minute or 10 seconds or even every second if needs be AND connection allowing, like the old editor did. That saves resources on the browser side and on the server side, it prevents one keypress from arriving at the database before the previous and makes the UI a lot faster and instanly more usable. Then the community can focus on why the UI's actual design instead of its bad implementation.   (Also fire the developer who thought it a good idea to make a request onkeypress. It is NEVER a good idea to do that, and especially not in an editor, maybe even fire the entire team that thought of it)

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! The autosave doesn't trigger on every key press; it waits for you to stop typing and then saves. If you notice any unintended behavior, you can report it as a bug: https://www.worldanvil.com/udan-tracker/   You can also use manual save if you don't want autosave: https://www.worldanvil.com/learn/article-guides/manual-save

No one should be fired for this, but you still have a good point

I don't think the developer should be fired, but this is ridiculous.

This is an obvious improvement. It makes me wonder why they employ a designer that doesn't understand these basic principles of website design.

100% agree. Especially when creating new articles. It's ridiculous that I have to speed-run typing in the article Title otherwise it autosaves halfway through and I have to type it out again. The whole system is so clunky and poorly implemented.

The lag is getting better in general, but i do agree with bringing back either manual saves or slowing down the auto save.

I don't agree with the whole "fire people" thing (it's not like any irreversible damage was done, it's an inconvenience and annoyance, not destruction of property), but everything else in this suggestion I do agree with.
