Spaces in Tags for Searches

tags spaces underscores -tags-with-spaces spaces-in-tags tag-space

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently spaces in tags are strongly discouraged, as they can break css classes, and separate tags are not taken into account in searches. This means that multi-word searches that don't match an article's title do not function unless you risk breaking css by using tags containing spaces.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Adding logic to interpret underscores in a tag as a space character in searches would allow for effective use of tags to aid in user searches without the inherent risk of undesired css behavior. Alternatively adding protections to prevent tags with spaces from creating unpredictable behavior with css would allow for the same results.

What are other uses for this feature request?

Spaces in tags are a pain. WA isn't consistent in how it deals with them. In some places (maps I think from memory for one) it turns them into underscores automatically but in others it leaves them as spaces. I'd like it to do the same thing everywhere, whatever that is. In the meantime I am regretting all the tags where I used spaces and am conducting a slow long term plan to gradually retag them all without using spaces.
