Allow shortcuts to Special Characters such as á, ë, and ø natively

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently there is no way to add the special characters listed above. Third-party browser software exists, and so does Microsoft word which allows special characters via shortcuts. It would be useful to press Ctrl+', a to get the á character instead of opening up word or the third-party app to get the character.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Currently there isn't any support for website wide special characters. Third-party or other sources must be used.

What are other uses for this feature request?

Being able to search for articles using the special characters would be helpful too.

I would definitely use this. My players and I all speak English, but the campaign is set in România.

On Windows, you can hold the Windows key and . to bring up special characters and input as many as you like, including emojis. I believe Macs also have this ability.

Surely, there are keyboards available in the US that has a reasonable number of keys on them?

I proposed this a while ago as well. It walks smack into a US/rest of the world issue: most of the world has adopted all sorts of strategies to deal with accents and the like. It's just us Ameriluddites who are trailing behind. I would still love to see a native solution, as WA is literally the only place I have this issue (I use accents a lot in MS Word, but there are intuitive keyboard shortcuts there). But I suspect this gets slammed down, because it's not an issue for other locales.

I would suggest that you learn the alt codes for the characters you need, or switch your keyboard layout. The US International layout will add the ability for you to type most other languages - please refer to this page. Or do some other googling around this - there are various different solutions.   In fact, this suggestion inspired me to finally go fix mine by adding the UK Extended keyboard. Now I can write Talindë with no issue!

Look up alt codes - for instance, you can get a á natively just fine, it's just hold down ALT and then hit this number sequence 0225 then lift off of ALT.   There's alt codes for every fancy character that exists, and WorldAnvil supports pretty much all of them, afaik.
