What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
I included a picture to explain what I mean. To say it outright, I'd like to be able to switch the main set an article fits under. If I could click one thing to change the article from Settlement to Geography that would be great- really changing the article and the article's drop-down list to the new article type. How does this feature request address the current situation?
Instead of going, "Oops, there's no Geography option in the drop-down for what I want, maybe there is in Settlement? Let me go back to Articles, create a new one with the same title as the existing one but as the other article set, then see if that drop-down has what I need in it and delete the article that doesn't have the right option included", I could just click two buttons.
What are other uses for this feature request?
I don't think there are any but I know it would save me a few hours, and it might help other people even more.
Follow up
I have seen so many people in the Discord's help channel ask for exactly this. The answer they get is that it isn't possible, because every article type other than Generic has unique fields. How do you propose preserving the information contained in a Geography article's fields when converting it to a Settlement?
It's actually exceptionally easy. The text written in the text field is a String. Copy the String and put it into the new variable of the same name in the other article. You can do the same for most of the other stuff, such as in the Design tab.
The Team's Response
Thanks for the suggestion! This isn't technically possible. Different templates have different fields; if you used the field "Ecosystem" in the Geography template, there's no way for the system to guess where that should go in a different template. And more importantly, several templates have unique features (such as dictionaries, diplomacy, relationships, etc.) that aren't supported by other templates and aren't just text fields.
