The Ability To Add .mp3 Or .wav Files For Pronunciation Guides

As simple as the title implies. I would love to be able to implement a small, imbedded audio player for word pronunciation on any article that might need it.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

There's no easier way to understand how to pronounce something than having it be heard. Sure, there's ways we could write out pronunciations, but this wouldn't be nearly as effective.

What are other uses for this feature request?

It could also be used for phonetic pronunciations, if you for example have a custom alphabet for a fictional language.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! Accepted under investigation. We'll look into adding an audio tag that lets you create an audio player. Note that the audio files would have to be hosted elsewhere rather than on World Anvil (similar to how the PDF tag works).

I'd love this, and makes sense for almost every genre.

Awesome idea! The IPA rules leave me so confused on sounding things out that I make stuff up based on how I think it sounds. Being able to pronounce the names of places, people, items, etc. with sound clips would greatly improve the understanding of various fictional cultures. Especially since IRL cultures have different sounds for the letters of the Alphabet and make things so much more complicated.

It would be cool if this was part of an integrated pronunciation system where you can put the pronunciation of a word and WorldAnvil automatically creates a sound-clip for it (like a specialized text-to-speech software).

Perobably not something I would use personally (scared of my own voice lol), but this would be so fun to see implemented!

Nice idea. I have never been able to get my head around the IPA (the International Phonetic Alphabet, rather than Indian Pale Ale which I have no problems with!) and I suspect that is also the case with most people. It's so much easier to listen to a spoken sample, so this would be good if you need to be totally clear about pronunciation.
