articles versioning revisions qol
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
After deleting/changing content and leaving the page, there is no way to revert the changes (or see an older version). It's very easy to accidentally loose work without a way to restore it.
By having an option to view the old version of the page, it would make it easier to recover. Lets say something along the lines of time based history (how the page looked 1 min ago, 5 min ago, 30 min ago, 1 hour ago). Version history updates could be tied to auto-saves, and stored only localy and for text only.
While this would likely be limited by the storage allowed by the browser, with text only it should still improve QoL when working on a specific article for a longer time.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
It allows for a way to undo/recover unvanted changes relying on other tools.
What are other uses for this feature request?
This could apply to other types of text based entries (other then articles).
Follow up
For clarrification: This only suggest VIEW option (not an abillity to revert changes), and everything only stored locally. Along the lines of simply storing, and being able to view, past contents of the page as sent via the POST request when saving the article (just with a probably better UI then the devtools).
The Team's Response
Thanks for your suggestion! While we understand that this could be a useful feature, this is being declined for the same reason as past version history suggestions: it's a very complex feature to pull off. We'll definitely keep having conversations within the team about this, as we know many people would like something like it, but for now we can't accept it.
