Let's use this default question form as an excellent example to what I mean:
When I create my characters, their story develops over arcs. In each arc they do something or involved in something else.
Normally this works fine for me as I can use headers to distinguish. However, when I would publish my world, revealing what all my characters do would be a massive spoiler! For now, all the information on them is in the general info box, or I can send them all to Personal History (I absolutely don't want to use Secrets, it contradicts the purpose), but what if I want to reveal only the first arc and reveal the others as the time passes?
Back to the example- you can see that the first question holds a basic story. The next header shows a whole other stage of the story, and the third one feels like we've just gone through the whole story.
Glover grew up in a fully clothed store until vicious cats tore it apart when the owner left for Ibiza.
Glover was illegally charged with gun trafficking, but he needed a personal handgun to murder stinky.
Glover discovers that everything he knew was a lie- the owner was Lumo the dog all this time!
My suggestion is to create Custom Labels in the focus mode, that their titles can be customized too, which I then can control their visibility, and open access to everyone will only include header 1, and my subscriber groups can be given access to the other headers as they progress along the story.
If such customization is possible, I'd love to know how to do that.
Thank you!
This seems absolutely vital for my campaign where I want my players to contribute to my world anvil but then I have to pick and choose what information I can post because of how hard it is to quantify it. Nevermind the fact you can't hide your own sections that you add to the general information. I want to be able to have general information for my character that isn't always player facing. It'd also keep me from adding that information in a subsection that already exists, that then adds a header that leads to nowhere (think mental characteristics and the sections you can add info to those that you don't want the players to see).
There are already features that cover this. Spoilers are available to everyone. Secrets (available to all guild members) and subscriber containers (grandmaster+) let you choose who sees what content. Secrets can be made public to remove all restrictions once it's been fully revealed. Reused heading structures can be put into the notebook for easy copy/pasting or into a basic custom template with no code needed. These tools could possibly be made more accessible or easier to use, but they do already exist.
You can already kind of do this! If you use sections and containers, you can affect visibility of specific parts within a single prompt-box - and if you specifically want to enable only smoe of your subscriber-groups, you can use subscriber-containers.
Use a subscription group that nobody is in, put those sections in the invisible-subcontainer, then 1 subcontainer at a time, switch the subscriber-group it is assigned to, so that the readers can then read it afterwards?
As much as A Fierce Goblin is correct. Creating custom templates is difficult and very limited to the existing template schema. With that said, I relatively sure this has been asked before and denied, but it is a very worth request.
This kind of defeats the idea of having templates in the first place. You can create custom templates, and there are options in the current templates to mark spoilers.
