Wondrous Item

Legendary

The 12 Eyed Well
The 12 Eyed Well, when it comes into skin-to-skin contact with a sapient, living creature with an INT score greater than or equal tow 12; will attempt to attune with the holder. Should the attunment fail, it will again be able to attempt attunement with the holder after a long rest. When the attunement succeeds, the 12 Eyed Well will "awaken" (indicated by the opening of the eyes on each face of the item, and will communicate telepathically with the attuned:

"What would bring you closure?"

- The attuned cannot respond to the 12 Eyed Well verbally, but can accept responses via telepathic or somatic means.
- The 12 Eyed Well is a monkeys paw, granting the wishes of the attuned to life.
- Granting a wish deactivates the item (indicated by the eyes closing) until the completion of a long rest.
- The 12 Eyed Well choses the least directly beneficial way to fulfill the wish of the attuned, and may reject wishes if the wish 'does not sufficiently accelerate the end of the universe'. The strength of the wishes beneficial properties increased proportionally to the Awakening Process, getting more powerful the closer progress of the Awakening Process gets to completion
- Once the wish has been granted, a backlash is inflicted upon the user proportional the Awakening Process of the item
- Each time a wish is granted, the Awakening Progress of the 12 Eyed Well increases by 1. (indicated by an eye on the item while awake having a massively expanded pupil)

"The Awakening Process" is a 12 segment clock ranging from 0-12, which represents how close the 12 Eyed Well is to breaking; undoing the seal on AJAX - The Shard of Singularity. When the Awakening Process reaches 12 (completes), please reference 'End Times - The Binding of AJAX' to dictate the end of the world.

Awakening Process - Boon and Backlash Scaling
Clock Segments Filled (Awakening Process) Scaling
0-3 Minor to No Effect, Minor Backlash
Example: The wish completes, but it's ability to influence the world is limited to the effects of 1st and 2nd level spells. Backlash: The user must succeed a DC 3 WIS saving throw to resist being possessed. Upon completion of the effect, the user feels a strong urge to engage in a taboo or vice that quickly subsides.
4-5 Minor Effect, Medium Backlash
Example: The wish completes, turning the suspicious guard catatonic. Backlash: The user must succeed a DC 16 CHR saving throw to resist being possessed. While possessed, the user begins to babble nonsensically about cosmic truths, and can make an additional saving throw at the start of each turn end the possession. Creatures that hear this rambling must make a DC 14 CHR saving throw, taking 2d8 psychic damage and lose 2 points in their CHR. A successful save halves damage received, and does not suffer a loss in their CHR.
6 Minor Effect, Medium Backlash
7 Medium Effect, Medium Backlash
Example: The wish completed with minor alterations, making the Bard irresistible to the bar maid. Backlash: from that day forwards, the Bards charisma charmed the ladies, but disgusted and enraged the men, driving them to violence against the Bard and those he charmed.
8 The wish completely fails. Backlash: The 12 Eyed Well begins to scream. All creatures within a 120ft. must succeed a DC 13 CON Save, or be deafened for 1d8 days after the conclusion of the screaming. A player that fails this save by 8 or more is permenantly deafened. (A quick witted player may make a DC 16 DEX check to cover their ears, gaining advantage on this saving throw).
9 Medium Effect, Major Backlash
10 Major Effect, Major Backlash
Example: The wish grants a considerable boon, with favourable interpretation of some ambiguities. Backlash: Summons a Sphere of Annihilation
11 The wish completes, with boon exacting to the users intention with no alterations. Backlash: (Consult 'End Times - The Binding Of AJAX)

The Staff of AJAX
The Staff of AJAX prevents the increase of the Awakening Process beyond 3 segments.

The Staff of AJAX
" You hold in your hand a cold staff of black glass, completely smooth to the touch, and a sea of grey vines growing from the head. The balled thistle, with a faint blue shimmer eminating from within, grows a thicket down the shaft in a dramatic spiral, which is visibly broken off around the grip. A tanned length of leather sways from a ring affixed to the end, Elvish script freshly inked on one side: 'The Staff of AJAX' "

The 12 Eyed Well
" It's a glowing, sea blue... dodecahedron? You reach down to pick it up; no bigger than an inch across, you use three fingers to lift it up... it's ridiculously heavy. Must be over 50lbs... you bring it up to inspect it, this cold and riggid stone... and it's eyes open. Every face of the stone, rippling with blazing eyes, gimlet pupils dialating spastically, focussing on you. It begins to speak... (DM hands the attuned player a sticky note) "

---DM LORE---
The 20 Eyed Well, the heart behind the Staff of AJAX's magic power, is a cursed relic built to contain AJAX - the Shard of Singularity.
